This is probably my favourite Positively Inclined Presents to date. I have the pleasure of presenting The Folklore Academy of St. Kitts and Nevis, a vibrant, passionate, creative organization founded by Shashi Wigley. The academy is a shining light is a federation that is fast forgetting its cultural roots and folklore. Join us for a look inside the academy and for information on new programs that you can get involved in. Inside you’ll see footage of myself – Mr. Positive – taking lessons and Shashi the tutor showing us how it should really be done.
Week 2 | 2010 Summer Sensation Dance Workshop

The second week of the 2010 Summer Sensation Dance Workshop focused on Modern Dance and Jazz. I – having been so moved by my last visit – came prepared to work (dance) and so I did. I danced between the participants as they pranced in a coordinated fashion displaying the moves that they were taught and had near-perfected over the course of the week.
The music was a bit more up tempo – quite my speed – and the faces were as focused and passion filled as they were at the last session. From the warm up to the final run through, the participants hopped, skipped and twirled diagonally across the wooden dance floor displaying agility, stamina, poise and core strength. I was not the only visitor this week – there were quite a few including the Honorable Marcella Liburd, Minister of Culture. All observers seemed impressed and the Honorable Minister even gave a few words of encouragement.
As the weeks wind down I am certain that participants are far from eager for sessions to come to a close. We personally can not wait to see what-else Stacey and her team have in store.

2010 Summer Sensation Dance Workshop | Week 1

The first week of the 2010 Summer Sensation Dance Workshop concluded this past weekend and the focus for those sessions was Ballet.
Positively Inclined had the pleasure of observing the intermediate group where attendees were focused and eager to participate. Ballet music is not my cup of tea, but it was soothing and the room’s otherwise silent ambience was interrupted only by queries, explanations, instructions or the occasional bursts of laughter which indicated that attendees were having a good time.
Facilitators were described as: patient, helpful, knowledgeable, professional and “just wonderful.” Participants further described the workshop as uplifting, exciting, and an experience that renewed their interest in Ballet.
The variety of attendees expertise was matched only by the diversity in their ages. Some participants were in their late teens while others were in their early thirties; with experience from as early as age five. There was a sole male participant so the spectrum was complete.
Demographics aside, the interest and passion for dance made the playing field level, and as one commenter stated, “It was a learning experience, as it opened them up to new things, particularly the dance terms.”
The week was one well spent for attendees and with two weeks to go in the 2010 Summer Sensation Dance Workshop, we invite you to get signed up soon (granted space is still available). DETAILS >>

As promised dancers are receiving a thrilling, engaging, muscle-working, memorable time! The 2010 Summer Sensation Dance Workshop, which ranges from beginners to intermediate and pre-advanced-level dance participants and emerging choreographers, is being hailed as an ideal training endeavor in the arts by the participants.
The 3 week session is being led by Ms. Stacey Greene, a performer and choreographer who started her dance career at the age of 17 with the CFBC Dance Ensemble. She later joined the Vivace Dance Company and has been training in the United States in New Jersey and Philadelphia PA areas in Ballet, Modern-Jazz, Hip-Hop and Gymnastics. In continuing in her growth she has tutored both at the Fireflies Dance School and the Vivace Teen Academy and has been a guest tutor at the Children’s Dance Theatre. Her dance career so far has led her to appear in several memorable dance performances such as the renowned Ballet piece called “Don Quixote” under the tutelage of Graham Lustig, artistic director of Princeton Ballet School, New Jersey.
Week 1 kicked off on the 16th of August in the dance genre of Ballet. Emphasis has been placed on correct alignment and movement dynamics as the class is covering a wide range of ballet vocabulary, from the barre to center adagio. Participants are sure to develop a strong sense of phrasing and an awareness of ballet as a vital foundation for all forms of dance by the end of each session.
Interested persons may still join in on this artistic educational opportunity by registering for the week 2 sessions in the genres of Modern, Modern-Jazz and Aerobics’ Training. This session will focus on the development of core strength, alignment, and artistic expression. Material will be drawn from a diverse movement vocabulary to stimulate and develop the dancer’s technique and imagination. This week will be conducted from August 23rd to 27th and will see beginners 4:30 to 6:30pm and Intermediate to Pre-Advance Dancers 7:00 to 9:00pm.
The final week 3 which begins on August 30th will see participants engaging in Basic Gymnastics Training and Cheerleading. In that week, participants will engage in a combination of high level, energetic dance skills with basic tumbling skills to show forth traditional school leadership.
Registration forms may be collected and returned to the department of Culture. There you can also receive more information as to the workshop times.
An overwhelming number of requests have been made about a master class and one is now being offered. It will be hosted on Saturday August 28th at 2:30 pm. All sessions are being held at the Youth and Community center on Victoria Road. The general public is invited to come to the center on Friday 20th and 27th at 5:30 or 8:30 to see the beginners and Intermediate to Pre-Advanced sessions respectively in a showcase displaying a few of the week’s trainings.

Some people say that the world balances itself. An increased birth rate balances an increased death rate, increased development (lack of environmental awareness) is balanced by increased natural disasters (the earth reclaiming its space). Increasing promiscuity and broken marriages are balanced by young couples crossing the threshold. On this week’s episode of Positively Inclined Unplugged we are talking about “Marriage.” Give it a listen!

Undeniably one of the most known artistes of the century with singles like: “Can’t Let You Go,” “Breathe,” “Super Woman,” Fabolous has made a name for himself in the entertainment business. We asked Fabolous about what is important if an artiste wants to make it in the entertainment business and after making it, how to maintain their success. Listen to what he had to say.
“Marcella Girl Protect Yourself” | Dramatization
“Marcella Girl Protect Yourself” What more can we say? This short dramatization drew the surrounding crowd of people usually gathered at the bus terminal on a Friday afternoon. The announcement was made that the show was about to begin and surrounding bars and shops turned down their music and turned their attention to the stage. The dramatization was entertaining, the story-line relatable and the actors were engaging. The crowd quickly grew thick and people exited buses they were about to board to catch a glimpse of the free show.
